A new church, St Margaret's, was opened in 1817 on the present site. This was destroyed by fire in 1897 and only the tower remained. The present church incorporating this tower and was consecrated in October 1899. The church was built using local stone from quarries at Darfield, Mexborough and Hooton Roberts. More recently, the sanctuary floor.
